This is my final painting for beginning painting...

And because of the grade I got on it, im starting to dislike it more and more, not to mention my own abilities as an artist. My teacher gave me a B- on this. Honestly, do I REALLY deserve a B-??? I mean.... ugh... im soooo disappointed by the grade D| *sighs* Im not sure if I should go up to the teacher about it and ask her the reasoning behind the grade. I dunno....

The theme was time though, and I decided to show a girl in the progression of decay. The left shows her as being young, and the right, her body begins to decay.

Well, thats all. This is depressing -_-

You can talk with the teacher about the grade and why she thinks you deserve a B-, always talking with her with respect.

As for the painting itself, it's a good idea, since it also shows that decay not only in the girl but also in the trees, being left side bright and the other gloomy. The two sides of the dress are lovely; I really like how the right side looks, very torn and dirty.

I think you should have used stronger colors, especially for her skin, since the skin and the dress have similitudes in color. The hand over her arms is barely seen. I mean, you notice it's a hand and all, but you should of added a darker shadow over the arm, and perhaps retouch her lips

This is a good picture for sure. The grade you received likely means that there was room for improvement, but it was a great start.

The subject matter was not the reason for the low grade, as I saw extremely morbid picture get high A's in my classes. Perhaps you teacher was looking for more detail and more of a dynamic perspective?

Whatever the reason, do not be afraid to ask. As a student you have a right to know why your teacher operates in the way that he does, and why he gave you the grade. Be respectful of course, but don't think that you are not entitled to an explanation either.

I really like this one, I think you should have a talk with the teacher about it if it's bothering you that much. Maybe she will explain why she gave you that mark. I feel there could have been more shadows to mark the detail. Some parts of it kinda all blend together, especially the colour of the skin and dress.

Thanks for the comment. I can see everything that youre saying. I wish I could have been more picky with the details in this, especially with the skin tones, but time constraints were really holding me back ):

Indeed. I emailed her last night and she got back to me. She had told me that it appeared that this work was not an improvement to my previous ones, in that my last two assignments were done really well but this one, according to her, was not up to par. :/ Im still a bit disappointed though, and I still feel a B- is a bit too harsh -_- Maybe a B would have been okay, but a B-?!?!?! Ugh....

Yeah, I see that as well. I really wish I could have improved on those areas, but I guess next time I make a painting, ill have to be more careful :/

Yeah, time can be a pain, since you actually need it to do paintings like this one. I hate doing rush works. >_<
Maybe after the year ends and during your break, you can put all the details you want in this one.

Awww, don't be upset about it. Every piece of artwork should be a good thing whether it comes out perfect or wrong because it should teach us what to do next time. Or at least that what I think ^^

fuck her, you know how art teachers are. anyways, they always have some random opinion about your art. i like the pic if it helps
