Artist's Comments

I do a lot of these self portraits dont I?

MAN. I gotta say, I am NOT happy with this. It just did NOT turn out how I hoped it to, and I cant seem to pin point why. Iv tinkered it with it SO much and im just feeling like giving up right now and waiting for critique this Wednesday and get some insight then. I dunno. I thought it was the shirt, so I added some brown to it (its pretty bright). Didnt help much. I HATE the face. Ugh. SO UGLY! DX< And it just seems too dark over all. ): I dunno..... this photo makes it look even worse. GAH!

Kay ^^; Ill stop whining now, but I needed to get that out.

This one sucks guys ): I can do better than this, Im sure I can.

I forgot the size, its a bit big, but i used the same oil palette as the nude model painting. Tada. Love the palette, but I hate this painting.

Now now, just because it didn't turn out the way you wanted it, doesn't mean that it is not good.

This is reminiscent of the African American mural street paint styling of the mid to late 1970's and could be interpreted as such. I actually thought that was the effect you were going for in this pic.

It is not your normal style Ally, but I happen to like this pic a lot. I would only recommend more definitive lining around the legs, feet, arms and hands, so that they are uniform to the lining of the face. Other than that.........it is a good pic, not what you wanted, but good nonetheless.

its a good painting, my only complaint being that it goes from really sharp to kinda fuzzy from top to bottom

Okay, well, im not saying it is a bad painting, it just isnt... great. I really wanted something epic, but, maybe I didnt try hard enough? I dunno.

I think thats the photo XDDD and the carpet XDDD

I purposely made the floor look a bit fuzzy because its carpet, and than the photo was taken at an angle which increases the fuzzyness, so yah ^^;

Ah....but you see.....an "epic" painting is not always immediately apparent my dear Ally. Remember the great Van Gogh and how his pics were initially received? Sometimes greatness takes a while to be realized, even by the artist themselves......The great musician Tchaikovsky absolutely hated is "Nutcracker Suite" and that is the most famous and well loved thing he ever wrote. Give it time and wait for the reception to decide....and time as well.

I actually am not too familiar with van gogh and Tchaikovsky. But I do understand. Perhaps im being impatient with myself.

And give yourself some constructive observations as well. You may see the pic for it's true worth as a result.
